Ex Libris
1. The Surf, Rock and Roll and Skate Art of Jim Phillips (Schiffer Books, 2004)
My first book.
Persuaded Santa Cruz art icon Jim Phillips to self-publish his work.
Ghost wrote it from his notes.
Then he took my name off the book, the guy.
Still proud of the book. Not too fond of the artist.

2. Surfing USA (Voyageur Press, October 2005)
First book for Voyageur.
Inspired by an interview I did with the Surfaris artist who wrote the song Wipeout.
Explains all the facets of surf culture that made it into the mainstream: music, language, clothing, fashion, movies, beach culture.
Where did it come from, and what is authentic?
.
3. Surfer Magazine Guide to North and Central California (Chronicle Books, April 2006)
I was the one who took my name off these surf guides, fearful that some surfer pot growers would drive all the way down and shoot me.
An update of Bank Wright’s Surfing California.
A good book that is almost invisible.
I accentuated the white shark danger, to ease my guilt.
I know few people who have seen it or bought it.
4. The Surfer Magazine Guide to Southern California (Chronicle Books, April 2006)
Same as above.
Although the danger in this one is traffic, not white sharks.
5. Surfing and the Meaning of Life (Voyageur Press, August 2006)
A book of famous quotes about surfing, by famous surfers.
Didn’t sell well, for some reason.
6. A History of Surf Wax (Schiffer Books, February 2007)
A book about surf wax??!!!!
Written for Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner.
More interesting than I thought it was going to be.
7. Surfboard: Art, Style and Stoke (Voyageur Press, May 2007)
We photographed the surfboard collection of Fernando Aguerre and I wrote a book that highlights the Mount Rushmore of figures who influenced the design of surfboards from ancient Hawaii to the present.
.

.
8. Graphic Surf: Collectible patches and sticker (Schiffer Books, 2007)
Wrote this with three surfboard sticker collectors.
9. Extreme Surf (Anova Books, 2008)
Kind of a Guinness Book for surfing: Deadliest wave, worst locals, biggest wave, most polluted, etc.
10. Vegas at Night (Thunder Bay Press, 2009)
A non-surfing book!
A short history of Las Vegas, and captions for photos taken by Jason Hawke.
11. The Shorebreak Art of Clark Little (self published, 2009)
Persuaded Hawaiian photographer Clark Little to self publish a book of his fantastic photos.
Masterminded the whole thing, wrote the story and captions.
Book was printed with the highest quality possible.
.
.
12. How to Surf (Voyageur Press, in process)
I like this book more than I thought.
Done at the same time I was doing Las Vegas at Night and Clark Little and the skateboard book.
There are a lot of How to Surf books, but I like this one.
